Although this can look pretty intimidating at first, I think after just a few tries you will find that it's pretty simple to do.
There are two ways to edit a page (and editing is what you will be doing when you enter a recipe) - Classic Mode and Point-and-Click Mode. Personally, I find the Classic Mode to be easier for this application as recipes are really pretty basic and we will only use a few simple commands. Using the Point-and-Click mode will cause a LOT of HTML commands to be inserted into the document and that can make it confusing to edit.
- First, determine which category your recipe should be in. If you can't decide, put it wherever you think you would look for it. I don't have a problem with the same recipe appearing in more than one category. For example, if I have a pasta dish that includes shrimp, do I put it under "Shrimp" or "Pasta"? I struggle with this myself. Do what you think is best.
- Once you have decided on a category, go to that page and select "Edit".
- You can paste your recipe in at the top of the document (assuming we are copying and pasting from another source), underneath the TOC (Table of Contents) command or you can scroll down and add it to the bottom.
- Enter an exclamation point in front of the recipe title. This makes the title a large heading and enters it into the Table of Contents.
- Go down one line and enter number of servings and points value, if you have them. There are two ways to italicize your text: Type the text, highlight it, then select the "I" at the top of the page; or, type two apostrophe's (NOT quotation marks) at the beginning of the text and two apostrophe's at the end of the text.
- Delete any text that is not part of the recipe itself (i.e., ease of preparation, level of difficulty, "Ingredients", "Instructions", etc.) See Posting Guidelines for specifics.
- Leave a blank space between the recipe yield and the start of your ingredients list.
- Leave a blank space between the ingredients list and the directions.
- Edit your recipe for spelling and clarity.
- If you have nutritional information at the end of the recipe, leave a space between the directions and the nutritional information and please italicize it so that it stands out.
- Go down two lines and type the command for top of the page. This is simply the word top inserted between these two things: < >, or < top >, minus the spaces. Having this command at the end of the recipe makes it easier to go back to the top of the page without having to do a lot of scrolling.
- Select "Save" and you're done. If you happen to get a "This Page Cannot Be Displayed" error message, don't panic. Just use the "back" button on your browser, select "Save" again and it should go through.
- If you would like to print this page for reference, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select "Save this page as a PDF document". A clean page will come up and you can print it using your browser's print button.
I think I covered everything here, but I sometimes have a tendency to forget the obvious. So please do not hesitate to post your questions in the comments section of this page.
Have fun!
