Ways to use non-fat, plain yogurt
Miscellaneous tips from the WW message boards
- Last night I mixed a 32oz tub of plain ff yogurt with a small box of white chocolate pudding. I added about 1/3 cup ff ricotta (you don't have to if you dont have it) and mixed well. That was 7pm last night. There's just DH and me in the house. It was all gone by lunchtime today. Dangerous stuff!!
- I just mixed a box of ffsf cheesecake instant pudding mix with 2 cups of ff yogurt and mixed it up. Fantastic!!! I could not believe how good it was! DH loved it too. I don't really like that flavor of pudding with milk - I was so surprised how good it was with just substituting yogurt! I am going to try other flavors too.
- Right now I am peeling/chopping 2 fresh peaches each night. Pour yogurt on top. The next day I add 1 pack splenda, mix all up and savor!
- Defrost some mixed berries and add it to the yogurt. It's fabulous and I don't even have to add any Splenda. The juice from the berries makes it sweet on its own.
- I add frozen fruit so by the time I eat for a snack mid morning the fruit has melted in the yogurt.
- I mix mine up with about a 1/2 can (drained) tropical fruit in passion/pinapple juice and a little splenda. I usually do this the night before so that the yogurt has time to get the flavors from the fruit.
- I use orange extract, splenda, and strawberries and bananas. Or I use almond extract, splenda, and blueberries. How 'bout coconut extract, splenda, and pineapple?
- I put fruit, two packages of sugar substitute and some vanilla extract in it. It's delicious.
- I mixed mine with some fresh strawberries and some splenda and put it in my Magic Bullet. It had it so completely mixed like store bought. I am one that usually doesn't even like yogurt that just has fruit in the bottom, so this worked.
- SF jam also seems to work well for some people. Possibly a mix of jam and fruit could work, too.
- Frozen dark cherries are awesome (just make sure no added sugar if you're cutting out sugar).
- And another favorite is frozen mango chunks (cheap at Trader Joes).
- If you add frozen fruit and mix it well, it sort of freezes the yogurt, and makes it thicker. I make smoothies with fruit, splenda a little milk and yogurt
- Fresh pineapple is delish in plain yogurt. No additional sweetener needed.
- Try adding in crumbled shredded wheat or other cereal for texture and nutrient balance.
- Canned sugar free cherry pie filling in case you are out of fresh fruit.
- I make my smoothies with 1 cup FF plain yogurt/fruit and 2 tsp of ff/sf pudding powder.
- I mix FF SF pudding with plain yogurt. I let it sit a day and then I use it to dip my fruit (usually apples). Tried butterscotch today. It was even better than the cheesecake!
- For a thick sweet breakfast yogurt on the go..the night before or hours before you plan to eat....ff plain yogurt in a mug..ff/sf vanilla or cheesecake pudding 1 tbl., topped with steel cut oatmeal from the box..I mix both the pudding and the sco in..put in the spoon..wrap in plastic wrap..& eat in the morning. You can put in your fresh fruit, (or frozen, but havn't tried the frozen yet). This is some fiber, 1/2 dairy satisfying snack or breakfast on the run
- Plain f/f yogurt makes an excellent dip or dressing for fruit.
If you add 1 tabl. of nonfat dry milk powder to each cup of plain f/f yogurt, you will be cutting the tart taste.
Then mix the cup of yogurt with Splenda Brown for a dressing for fruit salad. Try 1 tabl. and add more to taste.
Or: mix Splenda granular and vanilla with your yogurt to make vanilla yogurt which is also excellent as a dressing for fruit salad
